Gyros and Gyrettes Visist the Zoo
The visit to the Calgary zoo was organized for September 3 by Bill McIntyre with his friend Alex Graham, President and CEO of the zoo. Gyrette President Betty Fildes and President Doug decided to make the visit a mixed event, and that turned out to be a very welcome idea because it was probably the fun event of the year. Soon after we arrived the zoo personnel took the Gryos and Gyrettes behind the scenes for ‘Bath time with the Elephants’ where our members participated in scrubbing two of the elephants down with brushes and soap, and then in feeding them peanuts as they rolled around in their pool. After Bath time, Alex Graham took us on a personal tour of the fantastic new Africa Pavilion, which is due to be opened on January 10, on time and on budget, and then after lunch he gave us a talk on the future plans for the zoo. Only 35 Gyros and Gyrettes turned out for the visit, too bad, the rest of you missed a lot of fun.
