A LETTER FROM GYRO HANK ERNST:

Hank has asked me to put this note in the Gyro Bulletin on his behalf.
We would like to express our appreciation to those of you who chose to contribute to the Evan Shaw Trust Fund in memory of Mary.
We deeply regret that Alberta Treasury Branches will not provide us with the information that would allow us to personally acknowledge donors on an individual basis.
Please accept my apology. Hank Ernst.

PRESIDENT CORNER:

President Ken’s Message

This summer Ann and I attended the International Convention in Salt Lake City. On the Thursday afternoon a membership symposium was held. As you all know, membership in Gyro is on the decline. The executive at every level of Gyro keep looking for the magic bullet that will stop the bleeding and allow us to see membership increase. So far nothing seems to be working.
The highlight of the Convention in Salt Lake City was that we met five wonderful couples from Edmonton. Over the next four days we had so much fun as we traveled with them from Salt Lake City to Wallace, Idaho where the District VIII Convention was held. To me that is what Gyro is all about…meeting new people and having fun.

When we arrived in Wallace we met up with Gord and Sylvia Anderson, Garry and Barb Davies, and Steve and Carole Denny. The Wallace Club did a bang up job in organizing the convention. While it was a tad hot, I know that everyone who attended this convention would do it again in a heartbeat.
During the presentations on Saturday evening our club was presented with the Russ Carter Membership Award. I was proud to accept this award on behalf of our club. It is presented to the Gyro club that brings in the most new members. While many clubs are experiencing membership problems, we continue to grow. The challenge for each of us in the coming year will be to keep increasing our numbers.
Also it was announced that Gary Cull had won the District VIII award for best Club Secretary for the second year in a row. Having worked with Gary on the executive for the last five years, I can say without any reservation that the award is well deserved. It will be officially presented at our Club Installation on September 26. Please come out and give Gary the recognition he truly deserves.

At the District VIII Convention in Wallace, Idaho the following District VIII Officers were installed:

Governor: Alan Clark (Stampede City Club)
1st Lt. Gov.: Doug Aspeslet (Lethbridge Club)
2nd Lt. Gov.: Erik Braun (Sherwood Park)
Sec./Treas. Wes Fillo (Stampede City Club)
Past Gov.: Gerry Glassford (Edmonton Club)
We wish all of you a great year as leaders of District VIII!

DID YOU HEAR……

A wife looked up from her newspaper one morning and said to her husband:
"I’m convinced that my mind is almost completely gone".
Her husband looks at her and responds:
"I’m not surprised…you’ve been giving me a piece of it for over 30 years".

The new 2003/2004 Gyro Club of Calgary Roster will be going to print soon. If you have any corrections or changes to make please e-mail, phone or fax them to me now.

Your bulletin editor,

Gyro Gord A.
